".....I have been blessed to have met so many kind and caring individuals that volunteer to help the children of Cape Breton County. The past 17 years has given me the opportunity to see children “on the brink of success” develop and grow into responsible, caring citizens of our communities due to a Big Brother/Big Sister/Mentor who believed in their potential. Success of our programs may be measured in many ways…my favourite is seeing the smile on a child’s face when they meet their Big Brother, Big Sister or Mentor for the first time! Getting involved gives you an opportunity to have fun while being a positive influence on a child. Think about how many smiles you can create, then volunteer to help a child."

" I first started in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cape Breton County as a "Little Sister" and that itself was 10 years of laughter, fun and cherished memories. I was fortunate enough to be matched with a Big Sister not once but twice! My first match was with Karen whom I spent my early teen years being mentored by her as she introduced me to a new world of outdoor activities, reading books and crafts. In my late teens I was matched with Cheryl where a shared sense of humor kept our sides hurting from laughing too much upon visiting each other. I learned a lot from them as I take what I know now and apply to being a Big Sister myself. Devoting a couple hours a week is worth it every time you share a heartily chuckle or two! My life would not have been the same without it."
